Business and Technical Experience:
Sherri Scheetz has worked in the field of affordable housing for over thirty years and brings both private and public sector management experience to operations. She held senior level staff positions at the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, served as executive director of the Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority and was Chief Administrative Officer for the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority(AMHA).
As executive director in Medina, she developed the first property for families financed with Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) in the county, winning a design award from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) in the process. She implemented performance measures for property management, leading the agency to high performer status in the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s first year of the Public Housing Management Assessment Program (PHMAP), the precursor to today’s Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS).
In 2002, Sherri was hired as Director of the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher Program to lead the department from "troubled" status to "high performer." Under her direction, the agency’s HCV Program earned the first high performer designation from HUD in 2003, and maintained the prestigious ranking for each of the following years.
The AMHA portfolio included a broad range of programs, including Public Housing, Project-Based Section 8, LIHTC, and HOPE VI. AMHA consistently earned high performer status under PHAS. Ms. Scheetz implemented a monthly production tool to measure performance under the interim rule for PHAS and led the agency in maintaining high performer status for the controversial first year of the new measurements. She was instrumental in working with local government to develop a strategy to utilize Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds to acquire and renovate a LIHTC property that would have been otherwise lost as affordable housing. She stepped forward to coordinate HOPE VI efforts during staff transitions, and was involved in oversight of lease-up and management.
Sherri chaired the Large Public Housing Authority Committee for the Ohio Housing Authorities Conference from 2010 through 2012 and also served as Secretary and subsequently President on the Board of that statewide organization of public housing authorities . She was also a member of the HUD-appointed panel for the Housing Choice Voucher Cost Study.
She has served as a consultant in the fields of ethics and affordable housing for 20+ years and provided consulting services to the Hawaii Public Housing Authority and the Gary Housing Authority. As a member of the D&A team she currently provides consulting services to the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso.
